A place to relax

Existing residents of Woolston will be able to enjoy improved access to the waterfront via various routes through the scheme.

The scheme offers many features such as a public piazza, a wide waterfront promenade, tranquil landscaped grounds alongside a new library, play area, cafés and restaurants.

The partners are currently exploring opportunities to include public art throughout the site provided by local artists.

Local wildlife is important to the overall landscape concept for this site and where possible this has been enhanced with a strong ecological theme for all to enjoy.

Drawing on the site's main natural asset - the River Itchen - the plans create a new river frontage and provide pedestrian access to the river's edge. The ecological riverside terraces are designed to maintain views to the river and enhance the biodiversity in the adjacent Special Protection Area (SPA).
