Centenary Quay: Starting 2012 on a High image

In spite of a challenging year across the UK property market with homes sales in 2011 looking likely to be at the lowest level for 40 years*, Crest Nicholson’s Centenary Quay development in Woolston, Southampton is riding high on last year’s success during which more than 60 homes sold since its launch in April.

The first release of one and two-bedroom apartments and two and three-bedroom houses within Phase One all sold out, and the next wave of one-bedroom apartments and two-bedroom houses were released early to cope with demand.

“We have had a really fantastic first year on site,” said Susan Young, Sales & Marketing Director for Crest Nicholson Regeneration. “We liaised extensively with local residents prior to starting construction in order to ensure that the homes we built met the local need, but, in today’s market, it is impossible to feel supremely confident that homes will sell. The success of the development has far exceeded our expectations, particularly given the economic climate.

“Homes have been attracting all types of buyers, from first time buyers and key workers to second and third time buyers upgrading to a family home, as well as downsizers and investors. We have been able to help many first time buyers purchase their first home, as well as enabling numerous families to buy a larger home. The site has also proved extremely successful with investors; so much so that three separate investors each bought three properties, all of which were let within a matter of days and, in some instances, hours.

“Woolston had a demand for more homes and we are delighted that we have been able to help so many buyers at all stages in life either step onto or climb the property ladder.”

Susan concludes: “The number of sales here clearly demonstrates that the right home in the right location at the right price will sell, regardless of market conditions.”

Homes currently available for sale comprise one and two-bedroom apartments and two-bedroom houses. One and two-bedroom show apartments are available to view, along with the two-bedroom ‘IKEA’ show house, which has been kitted out entirely in the latest IKEA furniture and furnishings.

When complete, Centenary Quay will deliver 1,620 new homes in total providing accommodation for around 3000 residents, significantly regenerating the riverside of Woolston. The seven year investment programme covers an overall area of 31 acres and will provide a range of restaurants and cafes, a supermarket, several community facilities including a nursery and a library, a children’s play area, Primary Care Trust facility and a new marine quarter to meet the needs of the marine industry.
